Isabella was walking along the vast extension of sand letting the water touch her bare feet. She could not help thinking of what had been happening in the last two years. She still did not understand the reason why her life had changed that much. She was a strong woman who had always overtaken every obstacle; however, there were a few things that were over her.
It was a starry night and the calmed sea was neither cold nor warm. Isabella was shivering but she could not be a coward. However, wasn’t she a coward? She was about to give up her family, her lover, and her dreams. She did not want to continue creating sorrow on the people she loved the most. There was nothing she could do to mend all the harm she had done, so she decided to stop doing things in a wrong way.
Two years before, Isabella was living a life full of bliss. She was married to Dyllan, a handsome and romantic man who appeared in a tragic moment of her life. She had been abandoned by her husband-to-be and her entire world fell into pieces. Then, she met Dyllan and started to believe in love again. The most important thing was that he loved her and made her happy.
Isabella and Dyllan had two children: Sam and Lucy. They were the most loved kids in the world; they were everything for their parents. As a family, they resembled perfection. Nothing went wrong until his return.
It was summer. Isabella and her family were planning their holidays. They were visiting Dyllan’s parents on granny’s birthday. Days before the trip, Isabella got ill and was not able to travel with them, so she stayed alone for the first time since she got married to Dyllan. She had never imagined what was about to happen.
As soon as Isabella felt better, she decided to take advantage of her free time. She had two weeks to do what she wanted to do and to be herself. Not a wife, not a mother, not anyone but herself. So, was going to do all those things she could not do with her family there.
The first thing she did was to go to the cinema on her own and to choose a film she really wanted to watch. Then she had tea with some old friends from elementary school and dinner with middle school mates. She did puzzles, played the piano, went to the spa, and carried out some other pleasant activities. One night, Isabella decided to go to the museum without much enthusiasm, but it was better than staying home alone. Isabella did not know that her life was about to overturn that night.
There were not many people in the museum. It was Sunday and everyone was probably sleeping at that time. She toured all over the place admiring the pieces of art that were hanging on the walls. When she was getting out, someone grabbed her arm gently. She turned her body and saw him. It did not matter how much he made her suffer, his presence always made her tremble. Without saying anything they stared at each other and only a few seconds were enough for her to realize that she still loved him.
He was Michael, the man who had abandoned her days before getting married. He was the one who had broken Isabella’s heart ten years before. He had disappeared without any trace. But he was back, and she could give everything for that man.
Michael did not give Isabella any explanations and she did not ask for them. They left the museum together knowing that they could never be apart again. She loved her husband, she really did, but Michael was the love of her life, the one she wanted to be with till the end. When her family got back, she continued seeing Michael secretly.
On the one hand, she got Michael, who promised to never let her go again if she ran away with him. On the other hand it was Dyllan and her children. Isabella knew that Lucy and Sam would always be her kids and no one could separate them, so, if she left she would take them with her. However, she felt pity for Dyllan.
It was not a simple decision the one that had to be taken. Time went by and Isabella did not do anything about that. Isabella became paranoid but on her inside she wanted everything to blow up. Her family started slowly to get less perfect. There was something in the air that everybody in her house could perceive, but nobody could ever imagine what it was.
One day, Isabella exploded. Her double life was killing her inside and she could not keep on living in that way. She told Dyllan everything and he forgave her, but asked her to stop seeing the other man in order to rebuild their family. He had not understood a word. She did not want to do that, she did not want to see him ever again. He started crying and begging her not to leave him and she could not help staying with him. She did it for her kids.
Michael left. He had nothing to do there. Some months later, Isabella gave birth to a child: Annie. She was the most beautiful baby she had ever seen. Annie was Michael’s daughter and she knew Dyllan was aware of that although none of them spoke about that anymore. It was terrible to see the baby growing up in a fake family in with her father far away. She could not stand the situation and decided to find out Michael’s whereabouts without the desired results.
Little by little Isabella understood that she would never be happy again and she did not want her kids to see her distant and down in the dumps. In this way, she took the best decision she could reach to.
That starry night, Isabella gave her sleeping kids a kiss on each of their foreheads and then, she left. She walked by the shore until she got the courage to let the water take her.
